Type 201 is a low nickel, high-work hardening, austenitic chromium-nickel-manganese stainless steel.  Type 201 is not hardenable by heat treatment.  Type 201 may be substituted, in some cases, for other higher nickel content alloys.

Typical uses for Type 201 Stainless Steel
Appliances, food equipment, cookware, sinks, automotive trim, architectural applications such as windows and doors, railway cars, trailers, and hose clamps.

Formability
Type 201 stainless steel is formable to most shapes but will work-harden disallowing the most severe forming operations unless annealed prior to forming.

Magnetic Properties
Type 201 stainless steel is non-magnetic in the annealed condition but becomes magnetic when cold-worked.
